Classroom conversations and everyday talk that has anything to do with culture or identity can at times be misunderstood or worse yet alienate and offend. We will explore a few strategies and norms that can be implemented to improve class conversations. Participants will investigate microaggressions and unconscious bias to better monitor our everyday talk and wrap with important language shifts we can use with families, colleagues, and students. To close the session, a lengthy resource bank (prof books, kid lit, lesson plans, social media accounts, podcasts etc.) will be provided to continue the heart and mind work around equity, diversity, and cultural responsiveness.
