Flipping the ELA classroom is a great way to maximize time for differentiated instruction, project based learning, and one-on-one student interaction. Let's look at ways to get students involved in video creation, preparing them with an important future-ready skill while developing an understanding of important ELA concepts.
Intro
We'll discuss the flipped model of instruction, its benefits, and troubleshooting some of its pitfalls. We'll take a look at models of good ELA flipped videos and share some of our favorites to use as models.
Create
Let's start building a video that we'll use as a model for our students. We'll start by writing a short script and collect images that we can use to support our ideas. We'll look at ways to make sure our images are legal to use on YouTube and properly cited.
Reflect
What will this kind of activity look like for your students? How can your students make these videos help them tell their story? Can they connect literary concepts and devices to their own experiences?
